Bleak, Mad Nanna, God’s Cum – Dane Certificate’s Magic Tricks, Gags and Theatre, Brunswick, VIC (2014-01-31)

Dane Certificate’s Magic Tricks, Gags and Theatre is a wonderful little magic shop on Sydney Road that has a little stage set up, mostly for Dane’s magic shows and film screenings. Dane will often come out between acts and do magic tricks for the crowd while the band sets up. Last time my old housemate was there she was left holding a heatstroke affected rabbit after a trick; the magician nowhere to be found. Mad Nanna had been away on tour for months, this seemed like an appropriate returning show location.

Bleak is a one-man racket powerhouse from the mythical noise hotspot of Newcastle. Amazing tape labels like Grog Pappy and Mazurka Editions are based there, as is scum noise mecca The Pharmacy. Pilgrimage imminent. This performance is excellent. Unrelenting. Power.

Total time 17mins.

Quite possibly my favorite band, it was so nice to see them again. As far as I’m concerned every performance is essential listening; this one is no different. This performance of “I’m Not Coming Here” is amazing; Ian really smacks those skins. Seems like he missed it. “No Title” is as incredible as it always is. “A staple diet of fish and glue….”

Mad Nanna

01 – No Title
02 – I’m Not Coming Here
03 – You Can’t Expect It
04 – The Nectarine Tree

Total time 35mins.

Silly blokes from Bendigo (or something). Kinda operating on similar axis to Bum Creek (maybe?), albeit more juvenile. Played behind a screening of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film for most of their first song.

Gods Cum

01 – Dog
02 –
03 – I’ve Got New Shoes
04 –
05 – Hate

Total time 35mins.

  1. Any way you could re-up the Nanna set? Mediafire deleted it for some reason.

    1. Thanks for the heads up – all of them seem to be down. Working on a fix now, should be back up by later this afternoon

    2. That should do it. I had to upload to Google Drive because Mediafire wasn’t playing nice. Thanks.

  2. No, thank you for uploading all these great sets! Much appreciated especially here in the US, where do don’t get to see most of these bands (have seen Cuntz, Nanna, and Kitchens Floor at least)
