Fraser A Gorman, Hierophants, Dick Diver – The Barwon Club, Geelong, VIC (2013-07-12)

Dick Diver PosterWow, here’s a really, really, really good one. Three awesome sets, all with really great sound. I’d already been to two of the Dick Diver launch shows (the first one months ago at The Tote, and a week before at The Corner with Twerps and The Stevens), so I knew what to expect – they were fucking awesome as always. I’ll go into more detail under the individual artists, but rest assured that every single one of these recordings is worth your time. Recorded front and center; one of the best sounding up here.

FRASER A GORMAN
Despite his relatively young age, Fraser has been a central figure in the Geelong music scene for as long as I can remember – cutting his teeth in some really great garage bands. For the last few years he’s made the gradual shift over to country music, formed his backing band Big Harvest and had quite a bit of well deserved success (including a spot at Meredith Music Festival last year). This is Fraser on his own, and he’s just as awesome – an absolute sweetheart and great musician.

HIEROPHANTS
Hierophants are fucking awesome. Fucking. Awesome. If you didn’t already know Hierophants are members of Frowning Clouds and others – people used to call them a side-project, but I think that’s bullshit. I don’t know what else to say – best band outta Geelong? Probably. They hadn’t played in ages, so there’s a heap of new songs in this set.

Hierophants

DICK DIVER
Dick Diver are kinda in a league of their own at this stage, so it’s hard to write about them without just talking about how good they are. They’re very good. This was a great set by them, even if Al didn’t have his saxophone with him. It was really nice to see them in a smaller room with less people; it gave the whole show more of an intimate vibe than previous shows I’d been to.

Dick Diver
